1. Why build a data center career in Finland?

What excites me about the data center industry in Finland is how many different people and skills it brings together. There are career paths across technology, engineering, logistics, operations and many other areas, so you don’t necessarily have to follow a traditional route into the industry.

I think that creates a lot of potential for international professionals too. Different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives are valuable when so many people and teams need to work together. I personally really enjoy working with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

2. What advice would you give to data center professionals?

My main advice would be: don’t be afraid to just go for it. Be curious, ask questions and put yourself forward for opportunities, even if you don’t feel like you know everything yet. The data center industry is constantly developing, so being open to learning and adapting is important.

I’d also encourage people to get to know those around them and build connections. Finnish work culture might feel a little quiet or reserved at first, but don’t let that put you off. Take initiative and step outside your comfort zone. You never know which conversation, connection or opportunity might take your career in a completely new direction.

3. How did you find your way into the data center industry?

I was born in Finland and grew up with a Finnish-French background, speaking English and later studying in the UK.

My route into the data center world was not something I had planned! I originally joined Microsoft as an intern working in sales. During my internship, I learned more about the industry and realized it could be a career path for me. I’ve always been interested in technology and hands-on work, so something about it just clicked.

When an opportunity came up, I applied almost instantly. I’ve now been in my current role for around two and a half years, and honestly, I’ve never enjoyed working as much as I do now.
